Be sure to drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous outdoor activities! Isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening, mainly over El Paso County and the far eastern plains. A few severe storms will also be possible over the far easter plains later this evening, with the highest probability of occurrence over Kiowa County. Main threat with general thunderstorms will be gusty outflow winds approaching 60 mph, and with severe storms, wind gusts may reach 70 mph with hail up to ping pong size in diameter, as well as dangerous lightning and brief heavy rainfall. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday Thunderstorms are expected to develop over the mountains during the early afternoon on Friday and reach the Kansas border by the late evening. When the storms move over the plains they will intensify leading to the main risks being wind gusts ranging from 50 to 65 mph, heavy rain, and lightning, but there will be a chance for isolated storms having 1" hail. Arkansas River At La Junta affecting Otero County. .Continued releases from Pueblo Reservoir will keep the Arkansas River near Avondale above flood stage. The Arkansas River in La Junta has fallen back below flood stage, but will remain elevated at bankfull levels until further notice. For the Lower Arkansas River...including Avondale...Minor flooding is forecast. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
