Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening with the greatest coverage north of the Illinois River Valley. Severe weather is not expected. Temperatures will warm into the lower to mid 90s this afternoon with heat indices in the mid to upper 90s. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday. Hot and humid weather will prevail for the next several days. Heat index readings will peak in the mid 90s to around 100 degrees Thursday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. Hot and humid weather will prevail into this weekend over central and southeast IL. The hottest days will be Friday and Saturday when temperatures climb into the middle to upper 90s, and afternoon heat index values peak near or above 100 degrees. If working outside this week, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned locations. Be sure to check on those most vulnerable to the heat, including children and the elderly.
