THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA.

.DAY ONE... TODAY AND TONIGHT

GUSTY WINDS WILL AFFECT THE SANTA YNEZ RANGE...ADJACENT PORTIONS OF
THE SOUTH COAST OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY...AND THE INTERSTATE 5
CORRIDOR THROUGH TONIGHT. GALE FORCE WINDS ARE LIKELY ACROSS THE
OUTER WATERS THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT. HOT WEATHER WILL AFFECT
MUCH OF THE AREA THROUGH SATURDAY. HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL BE NEAR
EXCESSIVE HEAT THRESHOLDS AT TIMES ACROSS THE VALLEYS AND LOWER
MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS THROUGH SATURDAY. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAT AND
WIND WILL BRING DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TO SOUTHERN SANTA
BARBARA COUNTY AND THE I-5 CORRIDOR THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT.

...DANGEROUS HEAT EXPECTED FOR THE LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTY
MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS THROUGH SATURDAY...

...GUSTY WINDS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHWESTERN
CALIFORNIA THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING...

.A STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL
RESULT IN DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 10-15 DEGREES ABOVE
WHAT IS NORMALLY THE HOTTEST TIME OF THE YEAR. TEMPERATURES
BETWEEN 100 AND 110 DEGREES WILL BE COMMON IN THE VALLEYS AND
LOWER MOUNTAINS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES THROUGH
SATURDAY WITH ONLY MODEST RELIEF TONIGHT. HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED TO
BE LOW DURING THE HOT WEATHER...BUT HEAT INDEX VALUES SHOULD
STILL BE NEAR EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING CRITERIA AT TIMES.

GUSTY NORTHWEST TO NORTH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE SANTA
YNEZ RANGE AND ADJACENT PORTIONS OF THE SOUTH COAST OF SANTA
BARBARA COUNTY TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING. GUSTY WINDS WILL
ALSO AFFECT THE MOUNTAINS OF VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES
AROUND THE INTERSTATE 5 CORRIDOR...AND ACROSS THE SANTA CLARITA
VALLEY. WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 40 AND 55 MPH WILL BE COMMON ACROSS
THE ADVISORY AREA THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING.

* HEAT...DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 100 AND 110 DEGREES WILL
  BE COMMON THROUGH SATURDAY...WITH HEAT INDEX VALUES NEAR 105
  DEGREES DURING THE DAYTIME HOURS. MINIMUM TEMPERATURES WILL BE
  IN THE MID 60S TO MID 70S TONIGHT...EXCEPT NEAR 80 IN SOME
  OF THE WARMER FOOTHILL LOCATIONS.

* IMPACTS...DANGEROUS HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS IS POSSIBLE...
  ESPECIALLY FOR SENSITIVE POPULATIONS...THOSE CONDUCTING
  OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES...AND PEOPLE WITHOUT ACCESS TO AIR
  CONDITIONING. ELECTRICITY DEMANDS WILL BE HIGH AND POWER
  OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED
LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY - CALL 911.

NEVER...EVER...LEAVE PEOPLE OR PETS IN ENCLOSED VEHICLES...EVEN
FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING.  KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.
