A HIGH SURF WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF MAUI
AND THE BIG ISLAND UNTIL 6 AM HST SUNDAY.

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF
OAHU AND MOLOKAI UNTIL 6 AM HST SUNDAY.

AT 5 AM HST...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM DARBY WAS LOCATED NEAR
LATITUDE 18.8N...LONGITUDE 153.9W...OR ABOUT 100 MILES SOUTHEAST
OF HILO...OR ABOUT 310 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF HONOLULU. TROPICAL
STORM DARBY IS MOVING WEST AT 9 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE
NEAR 50 MPH.

.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
TROPICAL STORM DARBY WILL CONTINUE TOWARD THE BIG ISLAND THIS
MORNING. THE CENTER OF DARBY IS APPROACHING THE BIG ISLAND AND
WILL PASS VERY NEAR...OR OVER...THE BIG ISLAND TODAY. A GRADUAL
TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST IS EXPECTED LATER TODAY...WITH THE
CENTER OF DARBY EXPECTED TO PASS VERY NEAR...OR OVER...MAUI COUNTY
TONIGHT AND SUNDAY. THEN...THE CENTER OF DARBY OF EXPECTED TO PASS
VERY NEAR...OR OVER...OAHU LATE ON SUNDAY AND PASS VERY NEAR KAUAI
COUNTY SUNDAY NIGHT. RAIN AND WIND WILL INCREASE WELL AHEAD OF
THE CENTER AS IT MOVES ACROSS HAWAII.

TO DO SO BY LOCAL OFFICIALS...OR IF YOUR HOME IS VULNERABLE TO
HIGH WINDS OR FLOODING. CANCEL ANY BEACH ACTIVITIES UNTIL FURTHER
NOTICE. PERSONS LIVING NEAR THE SHORE SHOULD BE PREPARED TO
EVACUATE QUICKLY SHOULD BUILDING SURF THREATEN.

PEOPLE UNDER A WATCH SHOULD CONTINUE MAKING PREPARATIONS AND
LISTEN FOR POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

SECURE OUTDOOR OBJECTS WHICH CAN BE BLOWN AROUND AND CAUSE
ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. TROPICAL STORMS CAN BRING VERY HEAVY RAIN
LEADING TO FLASH FLOODING. PEOPLE NEAR STREAMS...RIVERS...AND LOW-
LYING FLOOD PRONE AREAS ARE URGED TO BE ESPECIALLY ALERT TO FLASH
FLOODING.

BASED ON THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK...TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS
OVER 39 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN OVERSPREADING THE AREA SUNDAY
MORNING. IN SOME AREAS...WINDS WILL BE AS HIGH AS 40 TO 45 MPH
WITH GUSTS TO 55 MPH. EVEN HIGHER WIND AND WIND GUSTS WILL BE
POSSIBLE OVER MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN...THROUGH PASSES...AND WHERE
WINDS BLOW DOWNSLOPE. WINDS AFFECTING THE UPPER FLOORS OF HIGH
RISE BUILDINGS WILL BE SIGNIFICANTLY STRONGER THAN THOSE NEAR
GROUND LEVEL.

SOME LOOSE OUTDOOR ITEMS WILL BE TOSSED AROUND. MANY POWER LINES
MAY BE KNOCKED DOWN...POSSIBLY RESULTING IN EXTENDED POWER
OUTAGES IN SOME AREAS. MANY WEAKER TREES SUCH AS ALBIZIA WILL BE
SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. SOME LARGE BRANCHES OF HEALTHY TREES WILL BE
SNAPPED. MOST NEWLY PLANTED TREES AND SHRUBS WILL BE DAMAGED OR
UPROOTED.

POORLY CONSTRUCTED HOMES MAY SUSTAIN MINOR WALL DAMAGE AND
PARTIAL ROOF REMOVAL. OTHER HOMES MAY HAVE MINOR ROOF AND SIDING
DAMAGE.

...INLAND FLOODING...
RAIN FROM DARBY IS EXPECTED TO REACH OAHU TONIGHT... BECOMING
HEAVY AT TIMES WITH HEAVIER SQUALLS AND EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS.
HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES WILL THEN CONTINUE SUNDAY. STORM TOTAL
RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10 INCHES COULD LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT
FLASH FLOODING. REFER TO THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR MORE DETAILS.

...STORM SURGE AND STORM TIDE...
FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF OAHU...SURF HEIGHTS OF 8 TO 12 FEET ARE
EXPECTED. THIS MAY CAUSE SIGNIFICANT WAVE RUNUP AND MINOR DAMAGE
ON SOME WINDWARD COASTAL ROADS. REFER TO THE HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR
MORE DETAILS.

...PROBABILITY OF TROPICAL STORM/HURRICANE CONDITIONS...
FOR OAHU...THE CHANCE FOR DAMAGING TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS AT
HONOLULU AND JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM IS 42 PERCENT.

STATE TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...WITH LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL
INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR FLASH FLOODING. HEAVY RAIN WILL
SPREAD ACROSS THE BIG ISLAND TODAY...WITH HEAVY RAIN SPREADING TO
MAUI COUNTY THIS AFTERNOON...AND TO OAHU TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.

* TROPICAL STORM DARBY IS EXPECTED TO PASS CLOSE TO OAHU ON
  SUNDAY. LOCALLY HEAVY RAINS MAY DEVELOP ACROSS OAHU TONIGHT
  AHEAD OF THE APPROACHING SYSTEM....WITH INCREASING POTENTIAL FOR
  HEAVY RAIN THAT COULD LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING LATE TONIGHT AND
  SUNDAY...CONTINUING INTO SUNDAY NIGHT.

* IN ADDITION TO FLOOD PRONE AREAS...HEAVY RAIN EVENTS OF THIS
  SIZE MAY CAUSE FLOODING IN AREAS OUTSIDE DESIGNATED FLOOD
  ZONES. ON THE FORECAST TRACK...STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS
  COULD BE BETWEEN 5 AND 10 INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS
  POSSIBLE. LOW SPOTS IN ROADS CAN BECOME DANGEROUS AND
  IMPASSABLE DUE TO SEVERE RUNOFF. HIGH AMOUNTS OF DEBRIS IN
  STREAMS AND GULCHES MAY CLOG BRIDGES AND CULVERTS RESULTING IN
  DANGEROUS FLOODING WHICH COULD OCCUR OUTSIDE THE NORMAL
  CHANNELS...AND COULD ALSO LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY DAMAGE.

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS VERY DANGEROUS.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND GET PREPARED FOR FLASH
FLOODING THIS WEEKEND. NEVER DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS
THE ROAD. TURN AROUND...DON/T DROWN.
