Tracking Late December Winter Storm Expected to Impact the Northern Plains through the Northeast U.S.

A winter storm system will rapidly intensify over the Midwest on Sunday and track through the Great Lakes on Monday. Periods of heavy snow are anticipated across the Upper Great Lakes late Sunday and continuing into Monday. Showers with isolated thunderstorms in the morning, then showers and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Waves 2 to 4 ft subsiding to 1 to 3 ft.

Tonight: West gales to 45 kt with occasional storm force gusts to around 50 kt. Snow showers overnight. Freezing spray overnight. Waves quickly building to 5 to 8 ft occasionally to 10 ft.

Monday: West gales to 45 kt with occasional storm force gusts to winds to 50 kt in the morning, easing to northwest gales to 35 kt in the afternoon. Freezing spray. Snow showers likely in the morning. Waves 6 to 9 ft occasionally to 12 ft.

Monday Night: Northwest winds to 30 kt diminishing to 15 to 25 kt. Freezing spray. Waves 6 to 9 ft occasionally to 12 ft subsiding to 4 to 7 ft occasionally to 9 ft.
