In 1980, seven tornadoes struck South Central Nebraska. Hardest hit was Grand Island, where four of the twisters were rated from F2 to F4. The most violent, an F4 with a track 6 miles long and averaging three fourths of a mile wide, struck Grand Island. Four people were killed and 110 were injured. This tornado caused most of the $300 million damage in the Grand Island area. The tornado had an unorthodox track, first moving west for 2 miles, then arcing toward the south for another 4 miles. $$ Auto
