(This evening through Saturday) Issued at 234 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 Summertime weather is here, and whether that`s good or bad is up to you. An upper level ridge will be building over the region and shifting a bit eastward during the short term, while high pressure remains in control at the surface. It should come as no surprise that afternoon highs are going to top out in the 90`s tomorrow and Saturday. In fact, I would not be surprised if a few of the warmer locations somewhere around the state briefly hit 100. With no strong winds and plenty of sunshine, heat stress will be notable. Wet bulb globe temperatures will reach high to extreme levels in much of the state both afternoons. If there is one positive note, dewpoints are going to remain generally in the 60`s in most areas, and while those are far from comfortable levels, it could certainly be a lot worse. Because of that, heat index values will likely remain below 105. There could be a stray shower or thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon in the far northwest near the MO border...but otherwise no precipitation is expected.

&& .LONG TERM... (Saturday Night through next Thursday) Issued at 234 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 The upper ridge officially moves east of Arkansas as we head into the long term. Before the heat subsides, the humidity will increase with heat index values over 100 this weekend. The most oppressive day will be on Sunday with indices in the 100 to 105 degree range. By the start of the work week, clouds will stream ahead of a developing tropical system over Mexico. Temperatures, although not cool, will drop a few degrees and diurnal convection will be possible. && .AVIATION...
