728 FNUS55 KABQ 291246 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 646 AM MDT Wed May 29 2024 .DISCUSSION... Showers and thunderstorms are expected on the eastern plains and as far west as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains during the afternoon and evening today and Thursday. Like yesterday, isolated, gusty and dry virga showers are expected over the northwest mountains and upper Rio Grande Valley this afternoon, with some dry thunderstorms possible along the west slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Moist backdoor fronts are now forecast to push through gaps in the central mountain chain with a potentially gusty east wind below canyons opening into the central valley from the east Thursday night into Friday morning, and Friday night into Saturday morning. This will probably enable thunderstorms to develop as far west as the central mountain chain Friday and Saturday with a mix of wet and dry storms over the high terrain. Warm, dry and gustier weather are expected areawide early next week as westerly flow strengthens some shifting Gulf moisture mostly east of New Mexico.
