114 FNUS55 KABQ 201134 FWFABQ Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico National Weather Service Albuquerque NM 534 AM MDT Fri Sep 20 2024 .DISCUSSION... Weather conditions will vary considerably between the western half of New Mexico and the eastern half today and Saturday. Mostly dry and breezy conditions will prevail across the western half while much more moisture moves into eastern areas, leading to scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. In addition to providing some areas of soaking rainfall, some eastern New Mexico storms will be strong with hail and locally gusty winds, especially on Saturday. Portions of the Rio Grande will observe particularly strong south winds on Saturday with gusts of 35 to 45 mph being common while humidity plummets to less than 15 percent. This will lead to a couple hours of critical fire weather in the middle Rio Grande valley from south of Albuquerque to Socorro. Showers and thunderstorms will start to dwindle into Sunday with just a few isolated storms expected in far east central New Mexico. Temperatures will be cooler on Sunday and into Monday.
