Dry, windy and unstable conditions ongoing this afternoon will taper off this evening as wind speeds die down. These winds return Friday, but are not expected to be as strong limiting the coverage of critical fire weather conditions to the Northeast Highlands and portions of west-central NM. Elevated fire weather conditions will be present elsewhere, except in far northeastern NM where a weak backdoor front will have brought a slight improvement to humidity and a northeasterly to easterly wind shift. Widespread critical fire weather will be present Saturday afternoon and early evening as westerly to southwesterly winds strengthen again. These conditions take a step back with lesser wind speeds Sunday, with an end to critical fire weather conditions likely by Memorial Day Monday. Cooler and wetter weather looks favored to enter eastern NM thereafter next week, with drier and warmer weather holding onto areas along and west of the Rio Grande Valley.
