Sea Ice Forecast for Western and Arctic Alaskan Coastal Waters

ANALYSIS CONFIDENCE...High to moderate.

SYNOPSIS...High pressure will remain over the High Arctic through
Saturday. A low will move through the Strait through Wednesday and
into Russian waters near Wrangel Island by Saturday.

The main ice edge extends from near Wales to 34 2`N 169 15`W to 64
8`N 170 21`W to 64 37`N 171 12`W to 64 11`N 171 56`W and into
Russian waters. Brash ice remains near the southern side of St.
Lawrence. The ice edge is open water.

From land-based points in Alaska, the main ice edge extends from
near Wales to 95 nm S of Wales to 20 nm N of Savoonga to 64 nm N of
Gambell and westward into Russian waters. Brash ice remains near
the southern side of St. Lawrence. The ice edge is open water.

FORECAST FOR THE BEAUFORT SEA (DAYS 1 through 5)...Forecast
confidence is high. East winds will persist through the period. The
ice pack will continue to be consolidated and move west. There are
areas of open water near Canada that may push into the area.

on the northwest coast will continue to expand to the west through

likely remain near Russia and St. Lawrence through Saturday.
