236 FXAK67 PAJK 112341 AFDAJK Southeast Alaska Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Juneau AK 341 PM AKDT Tue Jun 11 2024 .SHORT TERM.../ Through Wednesday night / Quiet weather across much of the SE AK panhandle. The low that passed south of Haida Gwaii moved into British Columbia and spread some clouds into the southern third of the panhandle and a bit of light rain from the part of frontal band that pushed to the Dixon Entrance area. Along the western portion of the remaining panhandle clouds which were pushed onshore are catching on the terrain and then moving in the flow along the coastline towards the Northeast Gulf coast. The northern inner channel regions got a few more breaks in the clouds and warmer high temps. Widely scattered shower may continue tonight and into Wednesday and Wednesday evening. Better chance still over the southern portion of the panhandle with some moisture flow from Central British Columbia into the southern panhandle into Wednesday and Wednesday night. Patchy fog could also develop overnight in areas with sufficient moisture, and supporting conditions. Am not anticipating widespread fog development. .LONG TERM...For the end of the week, we expect to have a low continuing to meander around the BC coast and southern panhandle that should bring some showers to parts of the panhandle. This could also bring some thunderstorms to the border and areas around the border for the weekend. As this low slowly moves out of the area, high pressure will remain off to the west allowing for NW flow across the gulf. Temperatures across the panhandle are also expected to respond to the mild weather with some increasing warmer temperatures as well. This will make things feel more like summer instead of feeling like spring. For the extended into next week, conditions are expected to be more likely warmer and drier for most of the panhandle according to the Climate Prediction Center. Big changes to the long term forecast today are a continued decrease in winds across the area as well as the introduction of a few possible thunderstorms during the day on Saturday. && .AVIATION...Generally good flying weather for the next 24 hours with conditions ranging from 1000ft to clear & 7. Lowest CIGs associated with rain showers over the southern Panhandle and onshore flow over the northeast Gulf Coast. Convective build-ups clearly seen on visible satellite imagery and a noticeable lack of cloud cover over the inner channels. These clouds will diminish as nighttime approaches. Overnight radiational cooling where skies remain mostly clear is expected to result in some fog, but should not be enough to affect operations and any of the TAF sites. Freezing level is right around 5000ft, so instrument flight over higher terrain will likely result in some airframe icing. Low level wind flow will be light, so any turbulence out there will be a result of convective thermal activity - which will end with the end of daylight. Setup across Southeast Alaska basically the same for tomorrow: wash, spin, rinse, repeat. && .AJK WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... PUBLIC...None.
