.AVIATION /12Z TAFS through 12Z Sunday/...
Issued at 532 AM MDT Sat Jun 29 2024
Cold front moved through on schedule with light northerly winds
persisting this morning. Stratus deck came in a bit higher than
originally expected with generally SCT/BKN 040-050 obs across
northeast Colorado. Guidance has this quickly dissipating through
the morning hours.
Winds should turn to the northeast, then to an east/southeast
component by this afternoon. Scattered convection is still
expected to develop later this afternoon. The best chance of TSRA
is near/south of APA with lower chances for BJC/DEN. Just enough
coverage in the metro to justify the addition of a PROB30 at DEN,
mainly for modestly gusty outflow winds for a brief period
focused around 00z this evening.
Overnight drainage flow is expected to be stronger than normal,
with a few gusts of 25-30kt overnight.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 403 AM MDT Sat Jun 29 2024
KCOS and KPUB...VFR conditions expected this morning with gusty
north winds up to 25-30 kts through 15-16z before winds shift around
from the east to southeast at 10-20 kts by afternoon. Thunderstorms
will develop over the mountains around noon and spread off into the
adjacent plains and I-25 corridor region around 00z. Brief MVFR
conditions with TSRA will be possible at both terminals for a couple
hours into the evening. MVFR to IFR conditions will be possible
overnight as stratus, showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms
develop across the plains overnight. Greatest chance for TS will be
east of both terminals.
KALS will remain VFR over the next 24 hours with a lower end
probability of VCSH/VCTS near the terminal during the late afternoon
and evening. Winds will remain under 15 kts but could gust up to 35
kts near thunderstorms. -KT

Salt Lake City Aviation Discussion
Issued at 0914 UTC Saturday, June 29, 2024

.AVIATION...KSLC...Smoke or haze from wildfires from the west
will have the potential to reduce visibilities at the terminal today
with otherwise VFR conditions expected. A light southerly wind is
forecast through much of the morning hours with potential for
briefly breezy southerly winds late morning. A northwest wind shift
is expected early to mid afternoon. Overnight, look for gusty
southerly winds with gusts at or exceeding 20 knots.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Across much of Utah
today, smoke or haze from wildfires from the west may reduce
visibilities at area terminals. Early this morning, easterly winds
are forecast for LGU and OGD bringing some gusty conditions.
Conditions are expected to shift more southwesterly by early this
afternoon. Elsewhere, diurnal wind shifts are forecast today. VFR
conditions are forecast except where isolated showers and
thunderstorms are possible across eastern Utah this afternoon.
Visibility may drop as a result in heavy rain.

VFR conditions will occur through the TAF period. SKC skies
will be in place to start for much of the area. FEW-SCT
FL150-250 will be in place after 21Z, with a chance for isolated
virga showers/thunderstorms. Southern portions of the forecast

Winds will be more easterly for much of the CWA, in the wake of
the cold front from Friday night, with wind speeds also much
lower through the forecast period.
Please see the Aviation Weather Center and/or CWSU ZDV and ZLC for

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 220 AM MDT Sat Jun 29 2024
VFR conditions for all southeast Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle
airports today. Expect a few thunderstorms today mainly over
the mountains. Two main airports impacted by these
showers/storms will be KCYS and KLAR. Southeast winds return to
the Panhandle and southeast Wyoming plains late tonight which
could also increase chances for low level moisture. For now...it
looks like low clouds do not develop in the Panhandle until
after 12Z Sunday.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 627 AM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024
VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the TAF period. A
cold front pushed through western and north central Nebraska last
night, setting up mostly northerly to northwesterly winds this
afternoon. As the day progresses into the evening, winds will switch
to easterly. Near the end of the TAF period, showers may begin to
build across the region, which may briefly drop ceilings to MVFR.
For now, will omit from the TAFs until confidence in timing
increases.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 512 AM MDT Sat Jun 29 2024
Stratus is rapidly developing along/in wake of a passing cold
front with mainly MVFR ceilings being seen with some isolated
IFR especially on the western portion of the area. Some patchy
fog is also possible due to the recently saturated boundary
layer; although some uncertainty on coverage of fog due to dew
point depressions in excess of 5 degrees in spots and and wind
around 10 knots.
Stratus will end north to south throughout the morning along
with the wind slowly becoming more easterly. The cold front will
retreat north tonight as a warm front bringing storm potential
back, some dry air may be in place across KGLD so will leave
VCTS for now. A little more doubt in the northern extent of the
storms tonight so will leave KMCK dry for now. Strong signal
for stratus returning towards the end or just after the end of
this TAF period.

Think that Colorado storms will mainly stay across the Colorado border
this evening. Attention then turns to the overnight period. WAA/elevated
showers and storms are expected across the terminals though the overnight.
Will include VCTS/CB groups in the TAFs to account for this activity.
Locally reduced cigs down to IFR or MVFR will be possible as lower
cigs linger through the morning hours. Winds will be NE to E 5-15
kt.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 635 AM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024
Today, breezy surface winds have engaged at AMA and GUY. Later
this morning, AMA will see winds taper off, but DHT and GUY will
experience breezy wind from the north after a front moves
through. Wind gusts up to 30 kts are possible.
By the afternoon, thunderstorm activity will begin near AMA. A
PROB30 group is still implemented, but confidence for
thunderstorms on top of the terminal has decreased some and will
most likely be in the vicinity. Towards the evening hours,
thunderstorms are expected to impact the DHT and GUY sites. PROB30
groups are still at play with higher confidence for these
terminals to receive flight rule impacts. After midnight, showers
and thunderstorms may still continue for GUY. Eventually, lower
ceilings are anticipated to settle in after the storms have moved
through. MVFR conditions are expected at DHT and GUY through the
end of the period.

A backdoor cold front entering far northeast NM as of sunrise this
morning will move south and southwest into eastern New Mexico
today, bringing a north to northeasterly wind shift. Air behind
the front is rich with Gulf moisture and with upslope flow
developing on the east faces of the central mountain chain
later today, a notable increase in strong to severe storms is
expected this afternoon. Slow moving storms will be capable of
torrential rainfall, small hail, gusty and erratic wet downburst
winds, and brief reductions to ceilings and visibility. The highest
threat for strong storms producing torrential rainfall is just
east of the central mountain chain from the Estancia Valley north
to Raton including KLVS and KRTN. Scattered showers and thunderstorms
will continue mainly over the northern third of the state
overnight.
