VFR conditions expected through Thursday. Thunderstorms are
expected to develop across the high country after 12 PM, and then
move east. There is uncertainty about how well the storms can stay
together across metro Denver and out to DIA. There are enough
ingredients in place for severe storms east of DIA, but storms
will be less intense if they move over any of the terminals this
afternoon. Given the expected spottiness of the storms, TEMPO
groups seem to be the best way to handle the potential of -TSRA.
Showers and storms should clear the terminals by 7 PM. Gusty
winds to 35 or maybe 40 kts are possible with the strongest storms
this afternoon/evening.
In the wake of the showers/storms, southeast winds may briefly gust
over 25 kts, but by midnight drainage winds at the terminals
should take over (SSW DEN and APA 8-12 kts, WNW at BJC 5-8 kts).
Tomorrow winds should shift to the north by midday at 10 kts or
less, and there will be another round of thunderstorms that
either impact the terminals (40-50% chance) directly or generate
gust fronts that result in winds shifts and gusty winds.

There is a better chance for TSRA at all three terminals today and
will carry this in a tempo group at all three TAF sites. Best
chance will be after 23z. Winds at KCOS and KPUB will shift from
the east to southeast this afternoon at 10-20 kts before
thunderstorm outflows dominate winds during the late afternoon and
evening. KALS will see more south to southwesterly winds today
prior to thunderstorm development. Winds will become light and
variable at KALS overnight but become east to southeasterly at KCOS
and KPUB. Most areas will stay VFR overnight but will need to
monitor the westward transport of low level moisture into the
mountains as some MVFR to IFR stratus could develop for KCOS and
KPUB with upslope flow if sufficient moisture return occurs. -KT

Showers and thunderstorms are expected through the TAF period.
Isolated showers are possible across southwest Colorado and
southeast Utah late this morning before more widespread
activity develops this afternoon and evening. All TAF sites will
see at least VCSH / VCTS during the period. Storms will be
capable of producing gusty winds in excess of 40 kts as well as
heavy rain with MVFR CIGS/VIS possible in the stronger storms.
Showers and some storms continue overnight and into Thursday
morning. Outside of showers, VFR will prevail at TAF sites.

Predominately VFR conditions across the region early this
morning, excluding a small cluster of storms that are approaching
KSEZ from the south. Assuming this cluster sustains itself, it`ll
arrive to KFLG in the next couple hours but shouldn`t persist very
long. Elsewhere high based -SHRA stretches from KCMR to east of
KPGA. That shower activity will continue to diminish. Widely
scattered TS will once again develop across the region after 18Z
and persist until after 00Z. Heavier TS will produce isolated
areas of sub VFR ceilings and visibilities.
OUTLOOK...Thursday 27/12Z through Saturday 29/12Z...Expect mostly
VFR conditions, excluding sub VFR conditions under afternoon TS
that will once again develop Thursday afternoon. Drier weather
returns Friday. Gusty/erratic winds possible near storm
development, with SW winds 10-20 kts expected otherwise.

through the period. Some light showers moving in from the southwest
could bring some mid level clouds and breezy variable winds in the
morning. These will transition to afternoon convection that will
pose a threat for gusty and erratic winds, lightning, and heavy rain.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions will prevail
across the airspace. Light rain showers across western Utah will
gradually transition east and dissipate. A brief lull in activity
will give way to scattered afternoon convection across most of the
region. These storms will pose a risk for gusty outflow winds,

Shower and thunderstorm chances continue to spread eastward through
the afternoon. All sites have at least a 15% chance to see a shower
or thunderstorm today. Locations with closer to 30% chances have
TEMPO or PROB30 groups in the TAFs. Shower chances will persist
overnight, but will be less than 20% for all terminals (except KRKS)
after 03Z. KRKS has the best chance to see thunderstorms after 03Z.
Then, shower and thunderstorm chances increase again late in the
period. West to southwest winds also increase late Thursday morning
as a shortwave passes through the area.

arise tonight through tomorrow morning. Showers with a few

lower to MVFR and south winds strengthen with gusts around 25
kts.

KGLD...VFR conditions are expected from taf issuance through
11z. East winds gusting to 20kts at taf issuance will slowly
veer to the east-southeast through the afternoon, gusting up to
30kts. Tonight, east-southeast winds gusting up to 25kts are
forecast through 02z, decreasing without any gusts after 03z.
There is a possibility of stratus toward 12z. Showers and
thunderstorms are possible at the terminal as they move through
from the west in the 07z-11z timeframe. Thursday morning, winds
veer to the south and increase with gusts up to 30kts. Morning
potential sub VFR cigs slowly improve through the morning to VFR
category.
KMCK...VFR conditions are expected from taf issuance through
about 12z or so. An east wind around 11kts at taf issuance will
increase slightly with gusts up to 20kts through 00z. Tonight,
east to east-southeast winds up to 11kts are forecast. Showers
and thunderstorms are currently forecast to reach the terminal
from the west in the 09z-13z timeframe. Sub VFR cigs are
possible as stratus moves in. Thursday morning, winds veer to
the south and increase with gusts up to 30kts. There could be
some showers/thunderstorms in the vicinity of the terminal
through 15z-16z before they move away. Cigs look to remain sub
VFR.

VFR conditions will prevail at all terminals through the TAF
period. Winds will slowly shift between ENE and SSE at <20 knots
until near the end of the TAF period. Thunderstorms are
expected through the overnight with exact timing and location
uncertain. Therefore, TAFs include mention of VCTS to account
for this at 7Z at GCK, 8Z at LBL, 9Z at DDC, and 11Z at HYS.
Future updates will hold more precise timings and impact on
terminals.

Thunderstorms are possible at the DHT and GUY TAF sites this
evening with some storms possible at the AMA TAF site after
midnight. Some of the storms may become severe with damaging winds
the main threat. Easterly winds this afternoon will turn more to
the south and southwest by Thursday morning. Winds will start get
gusty at DHT and GUY after about 14Z. Conditions are expected to
remain VFR outside of thunderstorms.

An active day is on tap with abundant moisture and instability in
place across the region. SHRA/TS will redevelop around the higher
terrain around 11am then drift erratically into nearby highlands
and valleys thru the evening. Direct hits will be capable of brief
IFR from heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail. A few strong to
severe storms are possible over northeast NM between 1pm and 8pm
as a weak backdoor cold front provides additional lift. Areas of
rain with embedded storms are likely to persist well into tonight
across central NM. This activity will begin to move slowly to the
northeast later this evening.
