A cold front will near and then cross the state in the late afternoon and evening hours. There will be multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front. There is a widespread threat of severe weather, mainly in the form of damaging thunderstorm wind gusts and hail. But, a couple of tornadoes are also possible over the eastern half of the state this afternoon and evening. The heavy rain from the thunderstorms and wet ground from recent rain could lead to some flooding, as well.Be prepared to quickly abandon outdoor activities for safe shelter should a warning be issued for your location. There will be short periods of mostly sunny skies today, but the numerous showers and storms will fill those in in short order. The humidity will be high, but temperatures will stay in the 70s for all but the Philadelphia metro area where they should hit 80 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms will push off to the east as the cold front exits PA late this evening. A few showers may return to the northwest overnight, though. Expect clearing elsewhere. Temperatures get down into the mid 50s in the Allegheny plateau, but hold in the upper 50s and lower 60s for everyone else. Tuesday will hold scattered showers and a few thunderstorms, too, mainly for the northwestern half of the Commonwealth. The southeast should be mostly sunny. Wind gusts could get neat 30 MPH for the mountains. The lower humidity will be nice change. Highs will get into the 60s in the northwestern mountains, and 70s elsewhere. $$
