.DISCUSSION...

Search site and General Ely Forecast -

Clouds are expected to move off to the east pretty quickly this
morning, leading to a several hour period of mostly sunny skies.
Then, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop
this afternoon. Exact timing will be tricky due to the scattered
and on-and-off nature of these storms, but a few showers could
start to develop around noon, then a better chance for storms
starting around 1 to 2 PM. From then through 9 or 10 PM, expect
on-and-off showers and storms mixed with periods of sunshine in
the middle. While most of these storms are not expected to be
severe, there is a very slight chance that there could be a strong
storm or two capable of wind gusts to around 50 mph and hail to
nickel size. Passing showers and storms will likely cause gusty
and erratic winds at times. Otherwise, breezy southwest to west
winds are expected today.

There may be a brief break from rain tonight, but additional
scattered light rain showers are expected to redevelop later
tonight and persist into Thursday. Gusty northwest winds are
expected to persist through Thursday.

Ely Visibility and Ceilings -

VFR conditions are expected through this morning. VFR ceilings are
largely expected through the afternoon and evening before low
stratus clouds develop gradually tonight, leading to MVFR and
eventually IFR ceilings by Thursday morning. It is possible that,
with passing showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, there could
be brief ceiling reductions to MVFR. More likely will be that
visibilities drop briefly to MVFR/IFR this afternoon in passing
showers and storms. Visibility is generally expected to remain
VFR tonight, though a very brief reduction to MVFR in a passing
shower can`t be ruled out.
