...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT THE BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE
AREA WILDERNESS TODAY...

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to affect the
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness starting this morning and
lasting through early this evening. The storms may produce
damaging winds, large hail, frequent cloud- to- ground lightning,
and locally heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms are expected from 7 AM
through 9 AM, then additional thunderstorms are expected starting
around noon and lasting into the early evening.

Now is the time to prepare for the possibility of severe
thunderstorms. Campers are urged to take extra precautions now in
order to secure campsites and make a plan in case of severe
weather. Check campsites for standing dead trees or limbs that
may fall in strong winds. Prepare to protect yourself from large
hail using sleeping bags or other padded items. sit on your
personal floatation devices or sleeping pads to minimize your
risk to lightning. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio for updates and
possible warnings.
