...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT THE BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE
AREA WILDERNESS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

Severe thunderstorms may affect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area
Wilderness this afternoon and evening. The storms may produce
damaging winds, large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, frequent
cloud-to-ground lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.
The window of time for thunderstorms is 3 PM to 10 PM this
afternoon and evening.

Now is the time to prepare for the possibility of severe
thunderstorms. Campers are urged to take extra precautions now in
order to secure campsites and make a plan in case of severe
weather. Check campsites for standing dead trees or limbs that
may fall in strong winds. Prepare to protect yourself from large
hail using sleeping bags or other padded items. sit on your
personal floatation devices or sleeping pads to minimize your
risk to lightning. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio for updates and
possible warnings.
