Today:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are ongoing across the northern
half of the state this morning. These showers and storms will
continue moving eastward early this morning as temperatures gradually
warm to the mid 70s north to low 80s south.

Showers and thunderstorms will form along a frontal boundary this
afternoon over northern and central Iowa. These storms will track
southeastward this evening into eastern Iowa. Strong to severe storms
will be possible, with the main threats being damaging winds and
locally heavy rainfall. Additional rainfall from these storms in
combination with yesterday`s rainfall may aggravate flooding
conditions over the northern part of the state. Highs today will be in
the upper 70s north to near 90 degrees in the far south.

Tonight and beyond:

Showers and storms will move out late this evening with mostly sunny
skies on store for Sunday. Highs Sunday will be in the mid to upper
80s with light winds. Hot weather will return for the first half of
the upcoming work week, with highs Monday and Tuesday in the mid to
upper 90s. Heat indices may reach the upper 90s to near 105 degrees
Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Storm chances return to the area late
Monday night across the far north and areawide by Tuesday afternoon
and evening. More storm chances return for Thursday through the end of
the weak.
