At 1134 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 5 miles northwest of Silver Lake, or 10 miles southeast of Spencer In Clay County, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph, pea size hail, and very heavy rainfall of three inches or more. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Ponding of water on roadways, low visibilities, and rises in small streams and creeks. Locations impacted include... Emmetsburg, Five Island Lake, Silver Lake, Rush Lake, Lost Island Lake, Graettinger, West Bend, Ruthven, Mallard, Ayrshire, Cylinder, Curlew, Rodman, Kearney State Park, Lost Island Lake State Park, and Emmetsburg Municipal Airport. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If on or near a lake, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now!
