...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...

.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Friday)
Issued at 217 PM EDT Thu May 30 2024

At a glance:

-Another nice short term

-Overnight lows in the 50s with highs in the low 80s.

Beautiful weather is expected this afternoon and tomorrow. RH will
fall into the 40s this afternoon leaving the area feeling more like
New England than the deep south. Winds will shift to the east
tonight and will mark the slow return to more humid conditions this
weekend.

Expect highs to continue to be in the low to mid 80s with overnight
lows in the 50s and 60s as we finish off the week with a slow but
steady increase in cloud coverage as Td starts to climb.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday morning through next Wednesday)
Issued at 217 PM EDT Thu May 30 2024

PoPs will begin to creep back into the forecast at the beginning of
the long term period as transient ridging gives way to an incoming
shortwave trough late Saturday. Still, Saturday will not be a
washout with scattered rain chances highest across the western part
of the state by late in the day into Saturday night. More widespread
scattered convection is likely on Sunday as compared to Saturday
amid continued influence of troughing.

Flow aloft will remain quasi-zonal through midweek, shunting
occasional shortwave perturbations eastward and keeping some degree
of isolated to scattered PoPs in the forecast, especially across
north Georgia. By late week, a cold front looks more likely to
approach the area by Thursday with PoPs likely to increase further
in association with this system.

High temperatures will remain largely in the 80s through Monday with
low 90s beginning to creep back into central Georgia by midweek.
