.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 249 PM CDT Sun Sep 22 2024

Today and tonight...

An upper trough extends from Nebraska to the California coast.
Another upper trough is centered over Canada and extends southward
over the upper Midwest. Upper lift is enhanced over south central
and central Nebraska and north central Kansas which has resulted in
showers across southern and central portions of the area. Northerly
winds are present with much cooler temperatures. Highs today are
expected to mostly be in the 60s. Skies will begin to clear out
tonight from northwest to southeast. This will result in
temperatures dropping into the 40s across most of the area. Some
areas across southeastern portions of the forecast area may be in
the 50s due to cloud cover. Some locations across northwestern
portions of the area may experience temperatures in the upper 30s.

Monday through Wednesday night...

The upper trough over the area will begin to move east on Monday
with another upper trough moving over the northern Plains. Southerly
winds and mostly sunny skies will return to south central and
central Nebraska and north central Kansas Monday afternoon. High
temperatures on Monday will mostly be in the lower 70s. Low
temperatures Monday night will be in the 40s and 50s. An upper
trough will extend from the central part of the country to the Great
Lakes on Tuesday. Winds will switch to the north on Tuesday across
the area on the backside of the upper trough. Despite the northerly
wind shift, temperatures on Tuesday are expected to warm up into the
mid 70s across most of the area. A few showers and an isolated
thunderstorm are possible (35% chance or less) Tuesday as the winds
switch to the north. Low temperatures Tuesday night will be in the
40s and 50s. The upper trough will dig southward on Wednesday with
light easterly winds across south central and central Nebraska and
north central Kansas. High temperatures on Wednesday will be similar
to those on Tuesday. Low temperatures Wednesday night will be in the
40s and 50s with southerly winds.

Thursday through Saturday night...

An upper ridge will extend from Arizona to Wisconsin on Thursday
with an upper low over the southern Plains. The base of an upper
trough will extend from the Pacific Northwest to over the northern
Rocky Mountains. Temperatures on Thursday may warm up a degree or
two from the previous day with south to southeast winds across south
central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas. Low
temperatures Thursday night may be slightly warmer than the previous
night but will still be in the 40s and 50s. Temperatures on Friday
will be similar to those on Thursday. Low temperatures Friday night
will be in the 50s. Similar temperatures are expected for Saturday
and Saturday night.
