Weather Summary for Portions of the Central Plains

Although we meteorologists and weather types have considered it the
summer season since June 1st...today marks the official start to
astronomical summer for all the rest of you out there...and our
weather forecast follows suit. In the wake of a cooler and less
humid day yesterday...southerly breezes eventually gusting as high
as 20 to 30 MPH will bring increased heat and humidity today...with
high temperatures this afternoon ranging from the low to mid 80s in
most of our Nebraska coverage area...to the upper 80s to around 90
degrees near and especially south of the Kansas border.
However...before we get to the afternoon warmth and eventually at
least partly sunny skies...we will need to get through a very
cloudy...and in spots...rainy and even a touch foggy start to the
day. Although not all places will see rain this morning...at least
spotty showers and a few thunderstorms could occur almost anywhere.
While dry weather should prevail pretty much area-wide this
afternoon into tonight...it is possible that a few thunderstorms
could try brushing into a few of our far northern counties...such as
Valley and Greeley...at some point tonight. This same general part
of our northern coverage area could stand a slightly better chance
of thunderstorms Friday evening...but the primary threat for
potential severe storms these next few nights will focus outside our
coverage area to the north and northwest...within northern and
western Nebraska and up into South Dakota. Briefly peeking ahead to
the weather for this weekend...Saturday and Sunday look mainly dry
and plenty warm...but not overly-hot...with highs topping out mainly
upper 80s to mid 90s.
