In 1994, a record wind gust of 96 mph was measured at the National Weather Service in Goodland and also two miles southwest in the west portion of Goodland associated with a thunderstorm. The winds demolished a commercial storage building, damaged or destroyed seven mobile homes, downed numerous mature trees and power lines, and stripped portions of many roofs including at the National Weather Service. One nearly new vehicle sustained eleven thousand dollars damage from blowing pebbles and sand. Total damage was estimated around two hundred and sixty thousand dollars. In 1997, hail and wind damaged 37 thousand acres of wheat 20 miles southwest of St Francis Kansas. In 2011, thunderstorms produced flooding rainfall over parts of Yuma County Colorado. Meanwhile, storms over western Kansas produced measured wind gusts to 80 mph at the Goodland airport with damage to irrigation pivots, fences and power poles in the area. $$
