...FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE...Union County, North Carolina.

* WHEN...Until 800 AM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
  and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
  greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
  parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.
  A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible.  A
  small culvert washout or two is possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 120 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges
    indicate that the heaviest rain bands from a weak coastal low
    have moved well to the west of Union County. Widespread
    2.5-3.5" accumulations occurred across the county in about 6
    hours, resulting in excessive runoff and rapid rises on area
    streams. Several streams exceeded bankfull conditions, and
    several streamgauges exceeded Action Stage, resulting in
    nuisance flooding of adjacent low-lying areas. Streamgauges
    along North Fork Crooked Creek at Poplin Rd, South Fork
    Crooked Creek at Idlewild Rd in Hemby Bridge, and Bearskin
    Creek near N Charlotte Ave in Monroe indicate that nuisance
    flooding adjacent to these streams continues and that
    floodwaters have yet to crest. Nuisance flooding of
    farmland, woodlands, parks, and greenways will continue for
    the next 2-4 hours as it will take some time for larger
    streams to crest and recede back below bankfull levels.
    Therefore, the Flood Advisory will remain in effect until
    flood conditions improve.

    Confidence is increasing that the heavy rain threat from this
    low-pressure system is over. However, a Flood Watch will
    remain in effect for the next few hours to ensure that
    anticipated bands of moderate rain develop north of Union
    County. Due to saturated soils and elevated stream levels,
    any additional bands of moderate to heavy rain would cause
    new areas of flooding to develop.

  - Some locations that may continue to experience nuisance
    flooding include...
    Monroe, Indian Trail, Weddington, Stallings, Unionville,
    Wesley Chapel, Wingate, Waxhaw, Marshville, Lake Park,
    Mineral Springs, Hemby Bridge, Marvin, Fairview, Sturdivants,
    Jaars and Trinity.
