A low aloft NE of the islands will remain nearly stationary tonight, then move W through the weekend, with the core of the low passing over waters N of the islands this weekend. This low will bring the potential for increased low cloud and shower coverage and intensity, mainly Saturday through Sunday. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms producing a few cloud to surface lightning strikes. Otherwise, the passage of the low aloft will have an effect on low-level winds, with subtle changes expected through the period. In summary, gentle to moderate ENE trade winds will veer to the E Saturday, and to the ESE Saturday night and Sunday as a weak and subtle low-level trough moves from E to W across the area. The ESE wind direction will prevail over the area from at least 20N to 28N between 160W and 153W. The low aloft will move N of the area Monday and Tuesday, eliminating the potential for heavy showers and/or thunderstorms, while also allowing strengthening trade winds to back to a more typical ENE direction. .TONIGHT...near 23.5N 158W Surface winds (kts).East-northeast (060 degrees) winds 8 to 12 knots.
