Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Wichita KS
412 AM CDT Sat May 18 2024

Much of the region early this morning was in the 60s, but
portions of northwest Nebraska started off in the low 50s behind
an advancing cold front. This cold front will cause a large spread
in temperatures this afternoon, with most of Nebraska only rising
into the 70s, while portions of south-central Kansas reach the
mid to upper 90s! This front will drape across Kansas today, and
will be the focus for isolated storms this afternoon, some of
which could be strong to marginally severe along the Kansas
Turnpike and into northern Missouri and eastern Iowa.

Tonight, forecast low temperatures across the region will dip
into the 50s and 60s. Additional storms are possible across
eastern Colorado, northern Kansas, and much of Nebraska tonight
through the morning hours on Sunday.

Sunday highs will range from the upper 70s across much of
Nebraska, to the mid 90s across southern and southwest Kansas.
Isolated to widely scattered severe storms are expected to
develop across the High Plains and move eastward Sunday afternoon
and evening. Large hail and damaging winds are going to be the
main concerns, but a tornado cannot be ruled out across portions
of Kansas and southern Nebraska. Storms will continue progressing
eastward Sunday night, with low temperatures ranging from the mid
40s across western Nebraska, to the upper 60s across southeast
Kansas and much of Missouri.
