...Microburst wind damage with maximum winds up to 80 mph
confirmed in Kosciusko County on September 20, 2024...

Numerous reports and videos from first responders and the public
and a survey of the damage confirms a microburst started south of
Leesburg, Indiana north of Levi Lee Rd along Old State Route 15
and then progressed rapidly east southeast towards Chapman Lake,
eventually weakening as it crossed Ridinger Lake. Pockets of tree
damage were noted with numerous trees and tree limbs down, some
onto structures and power lines with several roads blocked due to
the debris. The most concentrated damage occurred in the Chapman
Lake area where winds of up to 80 mph caused extensive damage,
especially on the east and the south side of the lake. Winds of 60
to 80 mph were estimated.

Additional wind damage did occur in portions of Whitley county
into far western Allen county. This damage is still being
assessed, but was caused by yet another microburst with winds of
at least 60 to 70 mph.
