Issued at 1100 PM EDT Sat May 18 2024 Another sultry evening and beginning to the overnight for the Florida Keys. Current temps (as of 10 pm) are in the mid to upper 80s with dew points in the upper 70s. This is making for a heat index ranging from 99 to 105 degrees! Despite tonight`s sounding continuing to show substantial dry air, a boundary north of the island chain has gotten excited enough to pop out a few showers. However, the dry air is making quick work and showers are struggling to maintain themselves. Nonetheless, this is evidence that there is just enough moisture to work with overnight. That being said, will leave the slight chances (10 percent) for the island chain. Otherwise, winds which were south to southwest earlier this afternoon, have quickly come around to the east and southeast and freshened slightly. This will provide some relief from the somewhat oppressive heat but not much. Meanwhile, the wind direction will remain favorable to keep dewpoints from falling hardly at all overnight. No changes were needed for this forecast update. && .MARINE... Issued at 1100 PM EDT Sat May 18 2024 The western extent of a low-level ridge axis extends west-northwest through the Bahamas and across the Keys. Southeast breezes will tend to peak and lull overnight through Sunday as the heating and cooling of South Florida and Cuba modulate the local wind forecast. There may be a break in the rain-free conditions Sunday night through Tuesday, followed by variable breezes turning to the east Wednesday through Thursday. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 1100 PM EDT Sat May 18 2024 Winds have shifted to the east and southeast and freshened slightly this evening. Winds will clock around the compass over the next 24 hours, going from an easterly direction to a west and northwest by Sunday evening. A line of showers has developed north of the island chain and is lifting northward away from the island terminals. Additional isolated showers are possible but confidence is low of showers actually moving across the terminals. Therefore will omit mentions of VCSH for now. && .KEY WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
