Through 600 pm, scattered showers and possible isolated embedded thunderstorms will wax and wane across the island chain and adjacent nearshore waters, as well as in the Straits of Florida between Alligator Reef Light and Elbow Cay. Movement of this activity will be slow and erratic but will generally move to the east to southeast. Mariners encountering the strongest activity can expect bouts of moderate to heavy rainfall reducing visibilities below 3 miles, wind gusts near 20 knots, and a rare cloud to surface lightning strike. Select island communities can expect up to one quarter of an inch of rainfall, mainly between Cudjoe Key and Marathon as well as between Tavernier and Ocean Reef. $$ NB
