.Overview...

Supercell thunderstorms developed across the central Sandhills
during the early afternoon hours on June 7, 2024, along the
intersection of a cold front, warm front, and inverted surface
trough. These supercells quickly strengthened as they moved east
and then eventually southeast into Custer County. The storms
produced large hail, strong winds, and a tornado northeast of
Arnold, Nebraska.

The survey determined peak winds of 120 mph, which is indicative
of EF-2 damage. The determination of 120 mph was from a row of
power lines that were snapped at the base of the pole.
Significant damage occurred to a irrigation system and
accompanying pump house. Several pivot pipes were wrapped around
the power lines and pump house. Several pipes were moved upwards
of an estimated half mile. The tornado lifted as it encountered a
line of mature trees approximate 1.8 miles southeast of where it
formed. Aerial imagery from the UAS team at NWS North Platte
determined the beginning and ending points of the tornado.
