Temperatures continue to cool toward normal values for this time of year, and may drop slightly below normal by the end of the weekend into the beginning of next week. But with no precipitation expected through the extended forecast, fuels continue to dry. Gusty west/northwest winds will set in on Friday for the weekend and beyond, elevating fire weather concerns, especially for areas inland and the higher terrain. Activities that could spark a fire should be discouraged. Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified. Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds. ...Discussion from Los Angeles/Oxnard... ...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT DUE TO GUSTY NORTH WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS... Southwest to west wind gusts of 20 to 35 mph will continue to affect the interior mountains and valleys today. Winds will be strongest in the afternoon and evening hours and strongest in the Antelope Valley. An upper level low pressure system will move through southern California on Friday, bringing rapidly increasing northwest to north winds in its wake. Gusts of 35 to 50 mph are likely over the wind prone areas like Santa Barbara County (especially the west through east Santa Ynez Range where isolated gusts to 65 mph are possible), the I-5 Corridor, and the Antelope Valley. Meanwhile, the air mass will warm and dry, with widespread 8 to 15 percent humidities in the mountains and deserts. High temperatures between 90 and 100 will be common inland of the beaches. This warm and dry air will descend into some coastal foothills, including southern Santa Barbara County. As a result, there is an elevated risk for fast growing grass fires over much of the area, that could transition into wildfires where the fuel beds are most abundant and dry. $$ ECC028-141100- Santa Barbara County excluding Los Padres National Forest- Discussion for Santa Barbara ECC Dispatch 955 AM PDT Thu Jun 13 2024 ...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT DUE TO GUSTY NORTH WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS...
