A warm and dry airmass remains in place with temperatures peaking today but remaining above normal tomorrow with highs returning closer to normal Thursday into the weekend. RH`s for the remainder of this afternoon and early evening farther inland amid higher elevations will continue to be at or below 20 percent with dry fuels and greater risk of grass fire ignition. RH recovery is expected across most of our area, with the exception being the highest elevations where min RH values will around 50 percent. Winds increase slightly out of the west tomorrow, but temperatures will be a few degrees cooler with min RH values slightly higher, with grass fire ignition concerns continuing. People should be discouraged from activities that could spark a fire. Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified. Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds. ...Discussion from Los Angeles/Oxnard... ...INCREASED RISK OF LARGE GRASS FIRES ACROSS THE INTERIOR VALLEYS THROUGH WEDNESDAY... ...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS LIKELY FOR SOUTHERN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT DUE TO GUSTY SUNDOWNER WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS... Southwest to west wind gusts of 25 to 40 mph will continue to affect the interior mountains and valleys each day through Wednesday or Thursday. Winds will be strongest in the afternoon and evening hours, strongest in the Antelope Valley, and strongest Wednesday. Humidities over the interior will continue to lower into 8 to 20 percent range, driest in the Antelope Valley and higher peaks. This combination of winds, dry air, and drying fine fuels will keep an increased risk of grass fires going. The coastal side of the ranges will continue to see a strong marine layer influence. An upper level low pressure system will move through southern California on Friday, bringing rapidly increasing northwest to north winds in its wake. Gusts of 35 to 50 mph are likely over the wind prone areas like Santa Barbara County (especially the west through east Santa Ynez Range), the I-5 Corridor, and the Antelope Valley. Meanwhile, the air mass will warm and dry, with widespread 6 to 12 percent humidities in the mountains and deserts. There is a potential for this dry air to descend into the windy hills of southern Santa Barbara County as well. The potential for elevated fire weather conditions is rising Friday Night through Sunday, with a small but present threat of near critical conditions. $$ ECC028-121645- Santa Barbara County excluding Los Padres National Forest- Discussion for Santa Barbara ECC Dispatch 333 PM PDT Tue Jun 11 2024 ...INCREASED RISK OF LARGE GRASS FIRES ACROSS THE INTERIOR VALLEYS THROUGH WEDNESDAY... ...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS LIKELY FOR SOUTHERN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT DUE TO GUSTY SUNDOWNER WINDS WITH WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS...
