Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Little Rock AR
645 AM CDT Thu Jun 20 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Friday Night)
Issued at 336 AM CDT Thu Jun 20 2024

An upper level ridge over the Ohio River Valley will retrograde to
the west today and Friday. Increased subsidence over the area will
result in decreased rain chances. Expect dry conditions today and
Friday.

Highs today and Friday will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s. With dew
points remaining in the 60s, heat indices should remain below
advisory criteria. Lows tonight will be in the mid 60s to lower
70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Wednesday)
Issued at 336 AM CDT Thu Jun 20 2024

The period will begin with a large ridge of high pressure over
Arkansas. Under the ridge, temperatures will be above to well above
average on Saturday, and conditions will be largely dry. Given
dewpoints in the 60s, afternoon heat index values will have
difficulty reaching the century mark. That will change as the period
progresses.

Late in the weekend and early next week, the ridge will wobble
toward the southern Plains/southern Rockies. Temperatures will come
down a couple of degrees, but not enough to notice. We will be under
the the eastern periphery of the ridge, with clockwise flow creating
a weak northwest flow aloft. A cold front will drift toward Arkansas
from the mid-Mississippi Valley/central Plains, and humidity levels
will tick a bit higher. Oppressive conditions are expected as heat
indices max out between 100 and 110 degrees across much of the
state. Heat Advisories will likely be required. There will also be
isolated to scattered afternoon/early evening thunderstorms by
Tuesday/Wednesday.

conditions. Otherwise, VFR conditions will continue.
