A supercell moved southeast across Tate and Panola Counties Friday evening, producing multiple swaths of damaging wind, as well as large hail. These winds are classified as straight-line winds associated with the rear flank downdraft of the supercell. .Tate County Thunderstorm Wind... Peak Wind /E/: 85 mph Path Length /statute/: 15.0 miles Path Width /maximum/: 3000 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/24/2024 Start Time: 05:37 PM CDT Start Location: 2.4 ESE Arkabutla / Tate County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 34.688 /-90.079 End Date: 05/24/2024 End Time: 06:20 PM CDT End Location: 4.9 NE Como / Panola County / MS End Lat/Lon: 34.552 / -89.881 Survey Summary: The first area of damaging wind was surveyed from Arkabutla Road approximately 5 miles west of Coldwater to Hunters Chapel Road in extreme northern Panola County 5 miles northeast of Como. A majority of the damage was to hardwood trees north of Senatobia, though there were some power lines down on the north side of town. Damage was more widespread southeast of Senatobia near the Back Acres Country Club where numerous trees were uprooted. The most significant damage was observed on Sides Bottom Road and Springfield Road. A metal building had a portion of the trim and half of the roof ripped off and tossed into a field and a nearby home was missing several shingles. Numerous trees were uprooted or snapped on Springfield Road. Maximum wind speeds in this area were estimated at around 85 mph. .Panola County Thunderstorm Wind.. Peak Wind /E/: 75 mph Path Length /statute/: 5.9 miles Path Width /maximum/: 4000 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 05/24/24 Start Time: 06:19 PM CDT Start Location: 1.4 NW Como / Panola County / MS Start Lat/Lon: 34.525 / -89.970 End Date: 05/24/24 End Time: 06:31 PM CDT End Location: 2.9 NNE Sardis / Panola County / MS End Lat/Lon: 34.474 / -89.891 Survey Summary: A swath of damaging straight-line winds affected northern Panola County in and around the community of Como. The first damage was surveyed on Old Panola Road between Highway 310 and Lucius Taylor Road, as well as the area near the primary school. Mostly small limbs and branches were down in these areas. Several trees were uprooted and/or large branches were broken off in Como and to the west of town with additional, sporadic damage south of town, mainly between Williams Road and Interstate 55. Minor tree damage was also noted on Holston Road approximately 1.5 miles east of I-55.
