Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Medford OR
849 AM PDT Fri May 24 2024

.DISCUSSION...Satellite imagery shows varying amounts of high and m
id level clouds ahead of an approaching weak upper trough. The upper
trough axis is over the west side valleys and will move east late
this morning. Meanwhile instability will increase east of the
Cascades and this in combination with ample mid level moisture and
weak trigger will be enough for isolated thunderstorms from around
Mount Shasta and points east to northeast of there and in portions
of Lake and northeast Klamath County this afternoon into early this
evening. Meanwhile intermittent showers are expected north of the
Umpqua Divide, Coos and northern Curry County, with precipitation
amounts less than a 0.10 of an inch. Changes were made to the
forecast to reflect the above mentioned. -Petrucelli

.AVIATION...24/12Z TAFs...VFR conditions are expected to continue
through the TAF period for inland areas, with breezier afternoon and
evening winds at all terminals.

An approaching weak frontal system pushing the marine layer and its
accompanying lower stratus inland this morning. A brief period of
MVFR conditions along the northern Curry and Coos county coasts is
starting to develop and will be possible through this morning.
Northwesterly breezes will pick up ahead of the front in the early
afternoon and continue into the evening as the front approaches, but
winds won`t be as significant as the system that passed through
earlier this week.

Showery, spotty precipitation will move onshore and inland this
afternoon and evening. Best chances will be in northern portions of
the region (northern Douglas, Coos, Klamath, and Lake counties) as
well as along the south OR Cascade crest. Additionally, there is
about a 10-15% chance for isolated thunderstorms developing later in
the afternoon into the evening in southern and eastern Lake and
Modoc counties. -CSP/Hermansen

and last into Saturday. Gusty north winds (with gusts up to 25 kt)
and steep seas may linger into Saturday evening for areas south of
Cape Blanco.

Winds and seas are expected to lower Sunday into Monday but may
remain locally gusty for areas south of Cape Blanco. Another front
moves through next Tuesday but expect mainly light winds. This is
followed by a potential for increasing north winds and seas on
