.Discussion...
Hurricane Helene is currently entering the southern Gulf of Mexico
near the tip of the Yucatan peninsula. Bands of showers and embedded
lightning storms associated with Helene will continue to increase
tonight into Thursday, producing locally heavy rain and increasingly
gusty winds. Frequent tropical storm force wind gusts are forecast
Thursday. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect for all of east
central Florida. There will also be a tornado threat within the
rainbands beginning tonight and persisting through Thursday night.
Deep moisture should linger across the Florida peninsula into the
weekend and keep rain chances above normal. Winds will shift out of
the SW Friday and Saturday and produce hot conditions with heat
indices 102-108.
Fog potential and other remarks...Fog is not forecast.
Localized visibility reductions due to smoke from new or existing
fires will be possible even if fog is not forecast.
