913 FNUS53 KMQT 240846 FWFMQT FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN National Weather Service Marquette MI 446 AM EDT Mon Jun 24 2024 ...Calm before thunderstorm chances tonight through Tuesday... .DISCUSSION: A quiet day of weather is expected today as high pressure is over the Great Lakes. Light winds this morning become south to southwest at around 10 mph with some gusts of 15-20 mph this afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front. Minimum RHs fall to the 40s for much of the UP today except for downwind of Lake Michigan, where RHS should stay in the 60 percent range or more. The cold front will arrive tonight, with chances of thunderstorms passing west to east through the night and morning hours. Some storms, especially in the west, could have gusty winds and frequent lightning. Behind the cold front, winds become westerly and increase to near 20 mph in some spots in the Keweenaw and the west with gusts as high as 30 mph. Clearing behind the front will allow for minimum RHs in the west half to fall to the 30s and 40s, though the east half will stay above 50 percent.
