522 FXUS64 KOUN 131715 AFDOUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Norman OK 1215 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 205 AM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 Mid-level heights will gradually increase today over the southern Plains as a closed low moves into the Pacific Southwest, pushing a mid-level high eastward. Another warm day for us is in store with most locations in the 90s, and around 100 F across northern Oklahoma. Decaying thunderstorms are possible across portions of western and northern Oklahoma Thursday evening. The main hazards with any stronger storm will be damaging winds and large hail. Mostly clear skies overnight will help temperatures recover into the low 70s. Bunker && .LONG TERM... (Friday through Wednesday) Issued at 205 AM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 Warm temperatures will continue through the middle parts of next week and as the aforementioned ridge moves off to the east and then gets blocked across the eastern CONUS over the weekend and into next week. A shortwave trough is expected to move in on Saturday and Sunday, bringing at least low chances of showers and thunderstorms across the northern portions of Oklahoma. Beyond Sunday, it looks like we will stay dry and warm. Bunker && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1207 PM CDT Thu Jun 13 2024 Rather uniform southerly to south-southwesterly winds are expected throughout the TAF period. Those will peak this afternoon with many sites seeing 15+ knots sustained, and then most sites will drop near or below 10 knots tonight and remain that way through midday tomorrow. Skies will be VFR uniformly with the potential exception of northwest/northern Oklahoma this evening, where a cluster of storms may impact the area between about 0Z and 04Z. Gusty winds and reduced ceilings/visibilities are possible. Meister && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
