SUBJECT: Changes to flood categories for The Ohio River at Pittsburgh (PTTP1).

Effective October 1, 2024, The National Weather Service intends to change flood
stages for The Ohio River at Pittsburgh, the stream gage located at the confluence
of the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers in the city of Pittsburgh. In coordination
with local emergency management, it was determined that the impacts occurring at 22
feet (i.e the closure of the 10th Street Bypass) warranted the need to lower the
flood stage to this height.

The new flood categories will be as follows:

1. New flood stage is 22.0 feet. The previous flood stage was 25.0 feet.
2. New moderate flood stage is 25.0 feet. The previous moderate flood stage was 27.0 feet.
3. New major flood stage is 28.0 feet. The previous major flood stage was 28.5 feet.

The National Weather Service welcome feedback. If you have any questions or comments
