Satellite imageries continues to show open cell cumuli clouds streaming from the east as mid to upper level clouds moves in the opposite direction. Instability is also present in the area of responsibility (AOR) throughout the day. This instability is also reflected in the upper air data (RAOB) from this afternoon (24/00Z), with a high value of potential thunderstorm activity in the area. Model data shows a surface boundary layer pushed by a high pressure system to the south-southwest merging with a trough to the north over the islands. This phenomena will likely maintain unstable weather patterns over the islands throughout the forecast period, peaking on late Wednesday to Thursday. Gentle to fresh easterlies will likely linger for this forecast period. Expect scattered to numerous showers with the potential for thunderstorms, and a gentle to moderate easterlies for tonight through the midweek. Numerous to widespread showers with moderate to fresh easterlies is expected for the rest of the long term forecast period. && .Marine... Seas of 4 to 6 feet with short periods less than 10 seconds remains across the forecast area as reported from the PacIOOS buoy near Aunu`u. On the contrary, data from the PacIOOS buoy to the west (King Poloa) reflects a smoother appearance as peak periods are around 13 seconds long. However, these heights and periods still maintains favorable conditions over the area for the rest of the forecast period. Gentle to moderate east-southeast breeze will also increase to a fresh breeze from time to time throughout the forecast period.
