The following information is based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... None. ...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS... NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH... A Near-Equatorial Trough (NET) enters the region near 7N130E, extending southeastward across Sonsorol to end near EQ143E in southeastern Yap State. Moderate convection is associated with this feature, producing scattered showers and some thunderstorms near the point of maximum momenta at 7N130E, and in a convergence zone along the eastern peripheries of said trough across much of eastern Yap State. Models show the NET will meander south and west of Yap and Palau, with convergence and impinging trade-wind troughs bringing enhanced potential for showers and thunderstorms to Yap and Palau this weekend. TRADE-WIND TROUGHS... The troughs are difficult to distinguish from the background trade- wind pattern across Micronesia, being generally short-lived in nature. The most distinguishable features are producing some showers, thunderstorms and gusty outflow boundaries across much of eastern Yap State, Chuuk, and the Marshalls. TUTT... A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) enters the region near 23N180, to then extend southwest to a TUTT cell near 16N165E southwest of Wake Island, then extending further across the northern Marshalls before shifting due west and hug the 10N latitude before shifting northwest from eastern Yap State and exit near 19N130E. Little to moderate convection is associated with this feature, producing some thunderstorms as it interacts with surface features northeast of Yap Proper and much of eastern Yap State. The extensive trough west of the major TUTT cell near Wake Island will degrade over the next few days, followed by the TUTT cell moving further west and making its way across the far Northern Marianas in the second half of the week. $$ Kelly/Montvila
