300 FXUS65 KREV 080840 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 140 AM PDT Sat Jun 8 2024 .SYNOPSIS... The early season heat will decrease starting today into Monday before rebounding back up around the Tuesday-Wednesday timeframe. There will be low chances for isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms through the weekend with the best chances expected south of US-50. && .DISCUSSION... * Temperatures/Wind: Temperatures will trend down this weekend as an upper level trough moves through the western US. Temperatures today will reach the mid-90s for a majority of western NV, eastern Lassen County, and the lower elevations in Mono County. By Sunday, these aforementioned areas will see afternoon temperatures mainly in the upper 80s to low 90s. Most of the eastern Sierra valleys will be primarily in the upper 70s to low-80s. While not as hot as the last few days, these readings are still upwards of 10 degrees above average for early June. We can expect typical Zephyr winds each afternoon for western NV, with gusts each afternoon upwards of 25-30 mph. Otherwise, there are no major winds. * Thunderstorms: High resolution models continue to show that the best chances (30%) for thunderstorms today will be south of US-50, and east of US-95 in the inner basins and ranges in western Nevada. Primary concerns with the storms in these locations will be gusts of 30-40 mph, small hail, and frequent lightning. Locally heavy rainbursts within the storm cores can`t be ruled out. Thunderstorms are possible (20%) this afternoon in northern Lassen and Washoe counties near the OR border. These storms have the potential to become strong this afternoon. These same aforementioned areas will see additional chances for showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, with similar impacts. * Next Week: For the upcoming week, model ensembles still indicate a ridge building across the western US with a cutoff low drifting off the southern CA coast. Temperatures will trend up across the region from Tuesday through Friday, with temperatures once again returning to 15 degrees above average. Precipitation chances look low given the track of the cutoff low pressure. - McKellar && .AVIATION... * Density altitude concerns will remain this afternoon as our high temperatures remain 10 degrees above average.
