Temperatures remain below average today, returning to seasonal averages on Wednesday before heating back up to well above normal values by the weekend. Otherwise, dry conditions with typical afternoon breezes prevail through the work week. Warming temperatures this weekend brings increased afternoon winds. && .DISCUSSION... This forecaster left the office for a long weekend last week with temperatures nearing 100 degrees, just to return with temperatures in the low 40s this morning... not sure how to feel about that one. Anyways, temperatures remain below average today, with highs maxing out in the mid-to-upper 70s for western Nevada valleys and upper 60s for Sierra communities. Expect mostly sunny skies with the exception of some passing high clouds this afternoon. Areas of the Tahoe Basin and northeast California may also see some milky skies this afternoon as high-level smoke originating from the Sites Fire in Colusa County, CA is transported into the region by westerly winds aloft. Expect a gradual warming trend through the remainder of the week as a troughy pattern over the western US breaks down and allows high pressure to intensify over the region. Temperatures are expected to reach their peak on Saturday, soaring into the upper 90s and potentially breaking into the triple digits across lower western Nevada valleys. Otherwise, dry conditions continue through the remainder of the week. Light north-northwesterly breezes continue through Friday before the trough breaks down, allowing increased westerly Zephyr winds to return for the weekend. Whitlam && .AVIATION... VFR conditions prevail for all regional terminals, with generally light winds and mostly clear skies. A warming trend from Wednesday into this weekend bring well above average temperatures by the weekend, yielding density altitude concerns through the remainder of the week.
