511 FXUS65 KRIW 111730 AFDRIW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Riverton WY 1130 AM MDT Tue Jun 11 2024 .KEY MESSAGES... - Warmer and drier conditions expected Tuesday through much of the week. - Elevated river levels will continue through the week. - Elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions will be in place for much of the CWA today and Wednesday. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 145 AM MDT Tue Jun 11 2024 Mostly clear skies across the Cowboy State this morning, in the wake of Monday`s trough. A transitory ridge will move over the region today, keeping conditions dry. Gusty west-southwest winds, with gusts of 25 to 30 mph, will also occur across areas west of the Divide, including the Wind Corridor. These winds will push into the central basins after 00Z, keeping breezy conditions through 06Z. These winds, combined with relative humidity (RH) values in the teens, will result in elevated to fire weather conditions in the lower elevations. A more zonal flow pattern will be in place Wednesday, but similar conditions will return across the CWA. One difference however, will be that winds will be stronger, with gusts up to 35 mph, and be more widespread across the forecast area. High temperatures in the 90s will also be much more widespread east of the Divide and RH values will be in the teens once again. These conditions will once again result in elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions. Agricultural burning of any kind is highly discouraged today and Wednesday. There also looks to be enough moisture in the mid-levels for high-based showers and thunderstorms over far northwestern portion and eastern portions of Sweetwater County in the afternoon. A strong high center over AZ/NM will rebuild and push its ridge axis over the Northern Rockies Thursday into Friday. Showers and thunderstorms could return to southern portions of the CWA Thursday, spreading northward across the rest of the area Friday, as an upper level low from the Desert Southwest surges northward. A longwave trough will build over the PACNW and western Canada over the weekend, resulting in southwest flow aloft over the Cowboy State. This could bring elevated fire weather conditions again to much of the CWA. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1130 AM MDT Tue Jun 11 2024 VFR conditions are expected at all terminals through the period with mostly clear skies. Breezy west to northwest winds will continue to increase through the first 2 hours of the period. Winds will remain gusty through the afternoon, then decease after 02 to 03Z. Winds will increase again late in the period. Please see the Aviation Weather Center and/or CWSU ZDV and ZLC for the latest information on smoke, icing, and turbulence forecasts. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 145 AM MDT Tue Jun 11 2024 Dry conditions, west to southwest winds with gusts of 25-30 mph and RH values in the teens will result in elevated to near- critical fire weather conditions today and Wednesday. High temperatures in the 90s will be much more widespread east of the Divide Wednesday and RH values in the teens, along with wingspread wind gusts up to 35 mph. These conditions will once again result in elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions. Agricultural burning of any kind is highly discouraged today and Wednesday. && .HYDROLOGY... Issued at 145 AM MDT Mon Jun 10 2024 Rivers and creeks will continue to run high at or just below Action Stage, but remain steady for now. SWE at SnoTel sites continue to fall, with most remaining locations at 5 inches or less. A couple of notable exceptions, Grand Targhee in the Tetons and Two Ocean Plateau in southern portions of Yellowstone NP, still have 30 and 20 inches respectively. It looks like any widespread flooding threat is diminishing and will likely only impact specific areas, if at all. && .RIW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ DISCUSSION...LaVoie AVIATION...Hensley FIRE WEATHER...LaVoie HYDROLOGY...LaVoie
