The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  The north central City of Danville in south central Virginia...
  Southern Pittsylvania County in south central Virginia...

* Until 745 PM EDT.

* At 640 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Swansonville,
  or 7 miles east of Axton, moving east at 20 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
           to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
  Chatham...
  Blairs...
  Sandy River...
  Swansonville...
  Dry Fork...
  and Keeling.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. For your
safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy
building. Stay away from windows.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of hail of any
size, as well as reports of any wind damage, including downed trees
or large limbs, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free
