127 FXUS66 KSGX 112036 AFDSGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Diego CA 136 PM PDT Tue Jun 11 2024 .SYNOPSIS... Night and morning low clouds will continue west of the mountains through the rest of the work week. Warmer across the coast and valleys on Wednesday with slight cooling on Thursday. Briefly warmer on Friday and Saturday before cooler conditions develop by Sunday. && .DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... A 581 DM low is about 350 miles southwest of San Diego this afternoon, and a ridge is building across the Great Basin. Thick low clouds remain across the coast and western valleys, and only marginal additional clearing is likely today. This will keep the coast and western valleys a few degrees shy of seasonal averages, but slow warming will continue across the mountains and deserts, and highs will run 5-10 degrees above normal in those areas. The upper low will continue to churn to our southwest over the coming days while a ridge builds over the Four Corners region. Night and morning low clouds, and patchy drizzle tomorrow morning, will continue each day through the end of the work week, with the inland extent varying slightly each day. Highs will warm a few degrees on Wednesday across the coast, valleys and lower deserts, but will cool slightly in the mountains and High Desert. The low weakens and becomes an open wave on Thursday, passing over Southern California into Friday. Gusty winds will occur over the mountains and desert slopes on Thursday, and highs will cool a degree or two region-wide. A transient ridge develops for Friday and Saturday resulting in noticeable warming as well as a more shallow marine layer. This will be short-lived, however, as longwave troughing envelopes the western United States. A cooling trend will then occur Sunday through early next week. && .AVIATION... 112007Z...Coast/Valleys.
