212 FXUS64 KSJT 150504 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 1204 AM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Saturday) Issued at 149 PM CDT Fri Jun 14 2024 No significant changes needed to the short term portion of the forecast. Temperatures early this afternoon are in the lower to mid 90s, with some scattered stratus clouds streaming across the region. Overall, dry and warm conditions will persist into Saturday. Morning lows will be in the lower to mid 70s, with highs in the mid to upper 90s on Saturday afternoon. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday night through next Friday) Issued at 125 PM CDT Fri Jun 14 2024 A shortwave will move through the southern plains Saturday within overall ridging. No significant impacts from this feature are expected in our area. A large trough will develop over the western half of the U. S. by Monday, with ridging over the southeastern states. Ridging will be maintained over west central Texas, keeping our forecast mainly dry and hot from Saturday through Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid 90s to around 100, with lows generally in the 70s. By the second half of next week, models continue to indicate upper level troughing over the western Gulf of Mexico, moving into the southern Texas coast. There is even the possibility of a tropical disturbance developing late next week. Should a tropical wave/disturbance be able to move westward into southern Texas, we could see an increase in moisture and chance for showers and thunderstorms. Precipitation chances will remain in the 20 to 30 percent range for the second half of next week, along with high temperatures cooling into the upper 80s to lower 90s. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1200 AM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024 VFR conditions currently present across the area. Similar to yesterday, a small area of low stratus may develop across the Hill Country and spread north into the KJCT terminal but confidence that this stratus will be MVFR and not lower-end VFR is still low so have left prevailing VFR at all sites for the next 24 hours. Generally light and variable winds overnight will pick up out of the south later this morning before gradually backing more to the southeast during the day. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
