920 FXUS64 KSJT 272236 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 536 PM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Friday) Issued at 154 PM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 An upper level ridge will continue to dominate the weather across West Central Texas through the next 24 hours, resulting generally dry and hot conditions. An isolated shower or thunderstorms is possible this afternoon, mainly across our eastern counties, but most locations are forecast to remain dry. Otherwise, dry conditions will continue through Friday. Expect overnight lows in the mid 70s to near 80. Highs on Friday will top out in the 104 to 106 range across much of the Concho Valley, Heartland, and Big Country. In addition, heat index values in these locations will top out in the 103 to 108 range so the Heat Advisory has been extended through 7 PM Friday. Elsewhere, expect highs in the upper 90s to near 100, remaining below Heat Advisory criteria. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through next Thursday) Issued at 204 PM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 500mb ridge across the southeast and south central United States Friday night into Saturday will continue to provide hot and dry conditions across west central Texas into the weekend. Low to mid level moisture will remain limited through the weekend into early next as the upper level ridge of high pressure moves little across northeast Texas and the Arklatex Monday into Wednesday. A weakness in the 500mb ridge develops towards the end of the forecast period as a 500mb shortwave trough moves into the southern plains Thursday. This might provide a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms for northern portions of the CWA late Thursday. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 535 PM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 VFR through the next 24 hours with south to southeast winds throughout. Will likely see a few gusts to around 20 knots at most sties from late morning through the afternoon hours Friday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
