Late-morning webcams show decent surf at the Panhandle beaches where single red flags are currently flying. The culprit is prevailing southwest onshore flow that should continue to produce surf heights up to 2 ft. Longshore flow is more evident at St George Island where conditions are comparatively flatter. As such, a moderate risk of rip currents is maintained in the Franklin County forecast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in the afternoon and evening hours today with much drier conditions expected over the weekend. Much lighter winds, possibly offshore, are expected Friday and the weekend which will lead to a low to moderate risk of rip currents.
